Alas, Babylon

Main EventsRandy is warned by his brother Mark, an Air Force officer, that a nuclear attack on the U.S. is imminent. Mark sends his wife and children to stay with Randy and asks Randy to take care of them. Randy agrees and they begin to prepare. An attack does indeed occur and, cut off from all communication with civilization, Randy and his family and friends have to pull together to survive. Along the way they must deal with food and water shortages, looters, bands of criminals, sickness, death, and lawlessness.

SettingsAlas, Babylon is set in a small Florida town in the 1950's. The story is about the residents of Fort Recovery trying to survive after an all-out nuclear war. Frank's book was written during the height of the Cold War.
