Agronomists (AKA crop scientists)are people who study the subject of agronomy.Agronomy is the science and thechnology of producing and using plants for food, fuel, fibre, and land recovery.

By Joanna and Zoe

Agronomy includes work in the areas of genetics, plant makeup, meteorology and soil energy. These days agronomy is revolved around issues including: producing food (healthier food), managing the environmental impact of agricoulture and extracting useful energy from plants.

An Agronomists responsibility is to help organic farmers find environmentally friendly ways to use healthy chemicals that will not effect or change the fruit in anyway but protect it from bugs.

15 years ago, hardly anyone new about the importance of ferilising and what the plant genetics are; it would have been so rare, you`d have to go to a special store that specializes in plants. Now days, we`re more educated about the necessary soil for the growth of plants and which environments are good for plants. You can actually go to your local store and buy fertilizer!

Over the past 50 years, global food production has trebled, largely as a result of advances in agronomy. In spite of this, if the world is to adequately feed its growing population, food production needs to be trebled yet again over the next 50 years! Today, food and energy shortages loom large across the world.

They specialize in areas such as crop rotation, organic foods, irrigation syteming and drainage, plant breeding, plant physiology, soil classification, soil fertility, weed control as well as insect control.
