Advertising really got its start in the 1880's when the industrial boom happend and things were less money so companies could advertise more. After WW I companies were looking the make money and Advertising was a great place to start.

It started with magazines that included mostly womens products that were advertised to make you look younger. Then in 1923, Henry Luce began publishing TIME magazine. Millions of people read it every day. Time had every thing from sports to scandles. After magazines worked, companies hired sports figures to advertise their product in the people's personal life. This seemed to hit America hard. Coca Cola has been advertising since 1880 and the time line of their advertisments includes a wide variety of diiferent signs, magazines, billboards, etc.
