Acids and Bases

Acid rain is a result of excessive emissions of sulfur nitrogen caused by human activity which react with other compounds to form acids. Sulfur dioxide is a colorless gas released as a by product of combusted fossil fuels containing sulfur. Acid rain makes a big impact on forests. As it falls on trees it can make them lose their leaves and stunt their growth . It also reacts with minerals in the stones causing them to wash away.

Acids And Bases

Acids can be categorized as strong or weak. Strong acids ionize completely in their conjugate bases and hydrogen ions, while weak acids dont ionize completely .Weak acids : Acetic Acid Carbonic AcidHydrofluric Acid Strong Acids: Sulfuric Acid Nitric AcidPerchloric Acid

Which equations are used to caculate the pH and pOH scale? To solve for the pH scale use the formula of pOH=log[h+]. To solve for the concentration of pH use 10^-pH. To solve for pOH use the formula pOH=-log[OH-]. To solve for the concentrated pOH use 10^-pOH-.

Acid Rain

Bases are located between 7 and up on the ph scale. They have a bitter taste and feel slippery when they come in contact with water. Bases can be seperated as strong or weak, Strong Bases dissociates completely into a metal ion and a weak base only dissociates slightly in an aqueous solution. They turn red litmus paper blue.strong bases:NaOH,KoH,RbOHWeak bases: thylamie,Ammonia, Methylamie

Bases

The eastern half of the United States are affected by acid rain because acid rain occurs in highly urbanized areas where fossil fuel plants are in use. We can help this problem by using different methods of green energy.

Acids Can be described as anything found from 0-7 on the pH scale. They all have a tart or sour taste and are soluble when they come in contact with water.

The pH and poH scales are related because they both come from the dissasociation constant of pure water, in which a certain amount of H2O dissociates into H+ and OH-

Reactions Water and a salt is the product when an acid and base react this is called neutralization. Brushing your teeth with toothpaste is an example the toothpaste is the base that helps to neutralize the harmful acid that can erode your mouth withouth this your teeth can decay.

Baking soda and NAHCO3 frizzes when it comes in contact with an acid but change when it comes with a base, Chrry juice turns bright red in an acid, but purple in a base

An acid base indicator is a sybstance that tests if a substance is an acid or a base. Baking soda, red/blue litmus paper,Indicators change color because of the chemicals in it when a chemical comes in contact it shows a color to show the strength of the solution
