Bases are also known as alkaline. They have a bitter taste and a slippery feel. Bases have a pH scale of 8-14. Bases turn red litmus paper blue
Acids and Bases
Acids have a sour taste. Acids react with metal. On a pH scale, acids are numbered from 0-6. If you put blue litmus in an acid, it will turn red
The word acid comes from the Latin word acidus which means sour and refers to the sour taste and sharp odors of many acids
pHScale
Acids
The number 7 on the pH scale is nuetral. Water is placed as a 7 on the pH scale
Bases
Homogeneous ' Heterogeneous
A homogeneous mixture is the same through outA heterogeneous mixture in whichthe composition is not the samethroughout.
Neutralization
A reaction between an acid and a base
if the material has a low pH, there is a higher concentration of H+ ionsIf the material has a high pH, there is a lower concentration of H+ ions, and a higher concentration of OH- ions
