The Story of Achilles
Achilles is the son of the nymph Thetis and Peleus. When he was an infant, Thetis tried to make her son immortal by dipping him in the river Styx. She held him by his heel when he was dipped in so that his heel didn't touch the water. And since then, every part of his body was invulnerable (undefeatable) except his heel. (Achilles's tendon) When he got older, he was in the Trojan War, and Homer wrote about him in his story, The Illiad.
Achilles is well known for being the Greek warrior in the Trojan War. He also catpured many towns in the Trojan territory. In the town, Lyrnessos, he took a woman namd Briseis as a prize.
Achilles andThe Trojan War
Calchas prophesized that he wanted Achilles to help them fight Troy. When his mother found out, she hid Achilles and diguised him as a girl until he got caught and was sent to fight. Agamemnon(the leader) had to give up his wife,Chryseis, and then took Achilles' wife to make up for his loss. When Achilles found this out, he refused to fight for Greece and Troy began to defeat Greece. Achilles' best friend, Patroclus, fought in his place and was killed the next day by a man named Hector. Angry, Achilles recieved new armor from his mother and went on to slay Hector for killing his best friend.
Symbolism in Achilles's Death
Achilles continued fighting his emenies until one day, Paris(king of Troy) and Apollo shot him with a poison arrow in his heel. This is the weakness in everybody, so no matter how strong you may be, you'll always has a weakness
