Abraham Lincoln

November 6, 1860 Lincoln ran against Douglas for the election.
This year is when Abraham had a campaign against Douglas. It is known as the Great Debate. They talked about slavery. Abraham is against slavery, but Douglas wasn't.
1858
On September 22, 1862 Abraham issued the Emancipation Proclamation. On January 1st, 1863 is when it went into effect.
June 1st, 1865 is when Abraham read a speech called the Gettysburg Address. It was a beautiful speech, even though he only went to school for a year. He wrote it in 1864. It was a "monumental act."
Abraham was re-elected for president. He ran against George B. McClellan.
