Abraham Lincoln: A President for the Ages

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He led the United States during the Civil War and helped hold America together. He made many changes while in office that changed the country forever.

Time Line


Lincoln is born in a log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky on February 12.

The White House. Lincoln was elected in 1860 and then again in 1864.

John Wilkes Booth was an actor and worked in theaters like Ford's Theater. He did not agree with Abraham Lincoln about slavery and thought people should be allowed to own slaves. He shot Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865 at Ford's Theater. Lincoln was the first president to be assassinated.

The Civil War was fought between the Northern states that did not allow slavery and Southern states that did allow people to own slaves.

The Union (Northern) Army was led by Ulysses S. Grant and the Confederate (Southern) Army was led by Robert E. Lee.

Log cabin replica of Lincoln's birthplace. He later moved to Illinois where he became a lawyer.


Lincoln marries Mary Todd from Kentucky.


Lincoln inauguarted on March 4. Civil War begins on April 12.

Lincoln assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on 4-14 at Ford's Theater.
