About Brian

Brian Thompson's Glog

Hello, everyone! My name is Brian Thompson, and I am looking forward to working with all of you this summer.

I am a huge fan of both Eric Clapton and Bruce Springsteen. I've seen Springsteen in concert four times and Clapton twice. My favorite Clapton song is "Layla," and my favorite Bruce song is probably "Born to Run." However, I added a video of Springsteen performing "Waitin' on a Sunny Day" since it's such a great video.

I student taught in Webster (east of Rochester) and Dansville (south of Rochester). I taught 8th Grade U.S. History and 10th Grade Global Studies.

I teach at The Gow School in South Wales, New York. Gow is a boarding and day school for students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences. I am just finising up my second year there. I teach 10th Grade Global Studies (my certification is in Social Studies, 7-12) and Gow's signature class, Reconstructive Language (RL). I went through a lot of training to learn RL, which is a multisensory, phonics-based reading and language remediation program. In one year, I will become an internationally certified language education teacher. Below is a picture of me working outside with a few of my students.

I have never taken an online class before. However, I am familiar with the ANGEL system, which was used at my alma mater, SUNY Geneseo.

Working at Gow is so rewarding. I teach six classes, supervise and live in a dorm, coach, eat meals with the students, etc. It's a lot of work, but you really get to know every student. You see the whole student, not just part of him or her in a classroom. Here I am playing football with some students. I did not catch that pass.

This background is a picture of Mount Baldy, the highest peak at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. I'm an Eagle Scout and was lucky enough to go to Philmont and climb Baldy when I was 15.

Here I am playing in last year's faculty v. Varsity basketball game. Needless to say, we lost. The guy in blue is our headmaster.
