In 1934 The Longshoremen Strike occurred with the help of the communist party. It was not authorized by the Comintern until 1935 in Moscow.

"Radio Priest" Charles Coughlin's weekly radio broadcast drew an average of 30-45 million listeners.

Unemployment in 1937 was at a low (14.3%) since the Great Depression started.
