Grunge Music

Although beginning in mid 80's, it became the biggest trend in music in the mid 90's

Grunge's roots come from heavy metal and punk rock

Nirvana, with (from left to right) Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl, began in Aberdeen, WA, 1987. Sold over 25 million records in all, with albums Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero.

Pearl Jam, with (from left to right) Mike McCready, Matt Cameron, Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Stone Gossard, began in Seattle, WA, 1990. Sold about 60 million records worldwide, with their debut album, "Ten".

STP, with (from left to right) Dean DeLeo, Scott Weiland, Robert DeLeo, and Erik Kretz, began in San Diego, CA, 1985. Sold about 40 million records worldwide, driving to popularity with "Core"

Grunge music originated in Northwest America, with its most popular in Seattle, WA.

Grunge was also a style and fashion. Most commonly consisted of ripped jeans, flannel shirts, and combat boots. More towards DYI, it expressed the wearer's selves in how they want it.

Hence the nickname, "Seattle Sound"
