2nd Amendment Per.2

2nd Amendment

Pros:-necessary for the security of state -ensures your right to self preservation -"Every place that has been banned guns has seen murder rates go up. You cannot point to one place where murder rates have fallen, whether it’s Chicago or D.C. or even island nations such as England, Jamaica, or Ireland," (John Lott, Crime Prevention Research Center.) -established to ensure government does not overstep their Constitutional authority

Conclusion- The second amendment is the right to keep and bear arms and is set to protect all American citizens from the harm of violent criminals, protect our homes, our families, and our country from government tyranny both foreign and domestic.

Cons:-the government can take the wording out of historical context of to impose restrictions on your right to own modern firearms technology -Negligence can lead to accidents -intoxicated humans have no control over their actions and could result, if they have a gun, in someone's murder -identifying criminals vs. responsible citizens could result in the arrest of an innocent person

Court Case- In 1939 the U.S. Supreme Court considered the case in United States vs. Miller. This case set to determine whether a "sawed-off" shotgun is considered a Firearm. This case stood for 70 years, in 2008 the U.S. Supreme Court revisited the issue in the case of D.C. vs. Heller. Heller challenged the handgun ban that stood for 32 years. The Supreme Court's decision made the 2nd amendment to where any U.S. citizen can possess firearms and can't use "sawed-off" shotguns without paying a $200 tax.
