21st Century Classroom

An ideal 21st century classroom is one that utilizes the abundance of new and old technology to improve the classroom. It is clear that technology is changing the way our students learn and our teachers teach. That being said, it is important to note that technology should help, not run, the classroom. Implementing technology doesn't have to be extravagant and can be as simple as using phone apps. Below are some examples of technology available.

The Ideal Classroom

Meeting Their Needs

In order to meet the needs of my students I myself must be a master of the technology I will expect my students to use. One of the key issues with technology is that teachers themselves are not equipped with the knowledge of technology, and therefore are unsuccessful at implementing them. I will also ensure that I am meeting the needs of a diverse population of students. Luckily most developers of technology are aware of this issue and ensure products which consider individual differences and work to develop the metacognitive skills of all learners.

Evidence of The Ideal Classroom

The article found at the url below explains some of issues of an abundance of technology.http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/30/opinion/can-students-have-too-much-tech.html

This is a great peice of simple technology that can be used in classrooms of any economic demographic.

Quizlet is a great resource for both teachers and students. This is avaiiable as a phone app that students can use outside of class.

Desmos is one of few math specific apps that really is worth the download. As can be seen in the video, it is highly versatile and useful.

Personal Preparedness

In order to be prepared to teach in a 21st Century classroom, I need to be versatile. Technology is ever changing and ever improving. It is my duty as a teacher to be aware of the technology available to my students and implement them appropriately. As teachers we must meet the needs of all students, and in today's advanced world technology is a major part of those needs.
