-Frank Albert Sinatra was born on Dec. 12, 1915 in Hoboken NJ. Was an only child of Martin and Natalie Sinatra. Were both native Italians.-Played roles in more than 50 films. Won his first Academy award in 1945.-He began singing in amateur shows in 1933. He had a musical group but he didn't become a big hit until the 1940's.-At the end of his singing career, he had received 9 grammy awards. His last performance was on Feburary 25, 1995. On May 14, 1998 Frank died of a heart attack in California.

-Lived from 1919-1972.-Was the first African American athlete to play in baseball's Major League-Broke the color barrier in 1947. Jackie made great strikes.-After he left baseball Jackie had business interests and continue to work on behalf of civil rights. With diabetes and having heart problems he passed away on October 24, 1972.



-American military in World War II began after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The Allied powers of Great Britan and the US agreed upon a strategy: first defeat Axis forces of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini in Europe then win in the pacific against Japan.-The death of President Franklin D. Rooseevelt gave Hitler hope. That was until he committed suidide and Germany surrendered.-In the pacific theater a dramatic air raid on the Japanese capital of Tokyo thrilled Americans and shook the Japanese. Two months later the American Navy won a major victory.-On September 2, 1945 Japan signed a peace treaty with the allies. After 6 years World War II was finally over.

| 1945: President Roosevelt dies suddenly; Vice President Harry S. Truman assumes the presidency and role as commander in chief of World War II.

|1946: Four hundred thousand mine workers begin to strike, with other industries following their lead.

- The U.S entertainment in the 1940's was shaped by the country's involvement in World War II.- Music was very popular. The audience liked the sing music and jazz. Which electrified the audiences.-Many Americans followed sporting events on the radio and televison-Motion pictures were also extremely popular. Many Americans went to the movies every week during World War II. Many of the most popular movies and even the cartoons sported war themes.
