Internet Safety Law - COPPA Children Online Privacy Protection Act This law was created to protect children while they were online. It is designed to keep anyone from getting a child's personal information without the parents’ consent. It requires the Internet to explain their privacy policies on the site and get parental consent before collecting a child's personal information, such as name, address, phone number etc.

Technology in the Classroom Technology is used in the classroom to complement lessons being taught. It must be: 1. Used appropriately, always related to teaching. 2. Computers are in the classroom to support the curriculum being taught. 3. Computers should not change teaching methods.

Ethics 1. Use reliable and credible sites. (Look for the .edu or .gov domains) Give credit where credit is due! It is not your work, cite creator on reference page. It is plagiarism if you do not cite your sources!

Parents Get Involved! 1. Become computer literate. 2. Keep computer in a common area. 3. Share an email account or have access to theirs so that you can monitor their messages. 4. Bookmark kids' favorite sites. 5. Teach appropriate online behavior. 6. NO entering private chat sites! 7. Forward threatening messages.

Stay Safe! 1. Follow rules set by parents and internet provider. 2. NEVER trade personal photographs. 3. NEVER reveal personal information. 4. NEVER respond to threatening email or message. 5. Tell parents about any scary conversation or communication. 6. If you have a new "friend"; introduce them to your parents.

Cyber Bullying It is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person, *If adults get involved, it could be cyber-harassment or cyber-stalking.

Signs of Cyber Bullying: 1. Emotional distress during and after a phone conversation. 2. Very protective or secretive of their digital life. 3. Withdrawal from friends and activities. 4. Avoidance of school or group gatherings. 5. Slipping grades, "acting out." 6. Changes in moods, behavior, sleep, or appetite.

Preventing Cyber Bullying Parents talk to your children. Let them know it is not their fault. 1. Block the bully - block emails, IMs, texts etc. 2. Limit access to technology. 3. Know your kids' online world. 4. Look to the web for resource and support information about cyber bulling.
