Ways heat is transferred...

ConductionConvectionRadiation

Conduction - the process by which heat or electricity is directly transmitted through a substance when there is a difference of temperature or of electrical potential between adjoining regions, without movement of the material. There is conduction of heat and conduction of electricity.Happens in solids, liquids, and gases.Examples would be a metal spoon touching a pot full of boiling water, using a heat blanket to get warm, and picking up a hot coffee mug.

Convection - the movement of matter due to differences in density that are caused by temperature variations; can result in the transfer of energy as heatConvection happens when particles with lots of heat energy move and take the spot of less heated particles.Convection ONLY happens through gases or liquidsExamples would be boiling water, hot air balloons, and a lit fire.

Radiation - the energy that is transferred as electromagnetic waves. You can't see the radiation waves and it can sometimes be harmful to humans. But, plants take it in for nutrients, by photosynthesis. Examples would be visible light, X Rays and infrared waves.
