And the amount of prostituation was very large. Having an estimated 8,600 prostitutes in London alone. This was due to the fact that there was a very low amount of men compared to women. If everyone married 750,000 women wouldn't be married. It was a cesspool.

Victorian England

Life in Victorian England was filled with poverty. This being due to the lack of jobs and the 19th century population jump. Everyone was looking for work, skilled or not. The Victorian Era soon became notorious for child labor. Even Charles Dickens at age 12 had to go to work. There was also the problem of finding somewhere to live which was expensive because most of it was slums.

And everything varied by social class even entertainment. As everyone knows the richer you are the better off you are. Especially back then when royalty was held very high.

Also due to more sweets flooding in many people had to get teeth pulled this resulting in the invention of the "Waterloo Teeth" which were made from ivory to walrus jaws. Which even human teeth were used. Whether it be from fallen soldiers, grave robbers, or even from the desperately impoverished. Now are you seeing what I mean about social class? Also ether was replaced by the less flammable chloroform. Although critics did say that it caused patients to have heart attacks. However it still gained popularity after Dr. Snow used chloroform on Queen Victoria to deliver her eighth child (Prince Leopold).

The red areas are "middle class, well-to-do", light blue areas are "poor, 18s to 21s a week for a moderate family", dark blue areas are "very poor, casual, chronic want", and black areas are the "lowest class...occasional labourers, street sellers, loafers, criminals and semi-criminals".
