Stage 1- EggThe eggs are small and round. They are usually laid on a leaf or stem near food.

Stage 3 - Chrysalis (Pupa)The chrysalis is the hard case that protects the butterfly while it changes to an adult. Most of the time, the chrysalis is brown or green to help it blend in to its surroundings.

Stage 4 - Butterfly (Imago)Once the caterpillar is finished changing in the chrysalis, an adult butterfly will emerge. After resting for a while, the butterfly will be able to fly!

Stage 2 - Caterpillar (Larva)The caterpillar is long and worm-shaped. During this stage, the caterpillar eats a lot and grows. As it grows, it sheds its skin. It can shed its skin up to four or more times!
