THE EVOLUTION OF COMPUTERS

Considering the many different types of computers, it's hard to say which one came first. The word "computer was first used 1613 and was associated with people who could do math until the end of the 19th century. In 1822, the first mechanical computer was created by Charles Babbage. In 1910 Henry Babbage created an arithmetic logic unit (ALU). It was the first general-purpose computer.

The first programmable computer was the Z1. The Z1 was created by Konrad Zuse in 1938 and is known as the first functional modern computer.

The first digital computer came about in 1946 and was named ENIAC. Created by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly in Pennsylvania, it took only three years to to complete. Although the ABC is technacially the very first digital computer (invented in 1937 by John Vincenet Atanasoff), people consider the ENIAC to be the fisrt because it was fully functional.

The first computer with RAM was the WhirlWind machine. It was invented on March 8, 1955. It was the first digital comnputer with real time graphics and a magnetic core RAM

The first desktop was created in 1964. it was named Programma 101 and was created by Pier Giorgio Perotto. It cost $3,200 and only 44,000 were sold.

The fist micro-computer was developed in 1973 by Andre Truong Trong Thi and Francois Gernelle. It was given the name Micral and used the Intel 8008 processor.

The term "personal computer" was coined by Ed Roberts after inventing the Altair 8800 in 1971. the Atlair 8800 utilized switches to input and output data.

The first laptop was introduced in 1975. Named the IBM 5100, it weighed 55 pounds and had 5 inch display.

The Osborne I is also known as the first laptop. Invented by Adam Osborne in 1981, it weighed 24.5 pounds and had a 5 inch display.

IBM came out with the first PC in 1981. The IBM PC, sometimes referred to as the ACORN, had 16 KB of expandable memory and a 8088 processor.

In 2011, Google started shipping its Chromebook. The Chromebook runs the Google Chrome OS. The Chromebook is the first laptop that requires the internet and runs everything from the cloud.
