SUMATRAN ORANGUTAN(Pongo abelli)
Sumatran Orangutans are found in lowland forests in the Northern regions of Sumatra.
There are only around 7500 Sumatran Orangutans alive today.
Logging, deforestation, palm oil plantations, hunting, and fragmentation by roads are the biggest threat to the Sumatran Orangutan population.
Known as the "garneners of the forest", orangutans are especially important for their help of distribution of seeds from various plants. They also help let more light on to the forest floor by making way through the canopy.
The Sumatran Orangutan Society is works to help protect orangutangs, their homes, and their futures. You can donate here.
