Sponges feed through a process called filter feeding. This process occurs when an organism feeds by filtering small particles of food from the water through a part of its body.
Phylum Porifera
(Sponges)
An organism can be mobile or sessile. Sessile organisms are permanently attached to a surface, while a mobile organism can move around to catch food. Sponges are mainly sessile organisms.
Sponges are hermaphrodites which means that they have both male and female reproductive organs.
