Solar Energy is a free, inexhaustible resource. Solar energy was first used to power heat and then used to produce electricity. In 1839 a French physicist discovered that the sun's energy could produce "photovoltaic effect".

SOLAR ENERGY

INTRODUCTION

Solar panels cannot produce energy at night. Storing solar energy has been a problem under constant research to find better ways to store solar energy. Rechargable batteries is the most current method to store solar energy. Although rechargeable batteries isn't the best solution that's all we've got.

HOW DO WE STORE THIS ENERGY?

Photovoltaic is the conversion of light into electricty at the atomic level. The property photoelectric effect causes them to absorb photons of light and release electricity. Photovoltaic cell also known as a solar cells forms an electric field, positive on one side and negative on the other. When light struck the energy is caught in an electric current. Photovoltaic module is formed when a number of solar cells electrically connect to each other in a supported structure frame. The more modules the more the energy. Photovoltaic modules produce direct-current (dc) electricity. PV devices use a single-junction to create and electric field within a PV cell. Photons energy is equal or greater than the band gap which frees an electron for an electric circut. Multijunction cells use two or more different cells which achieve a higher conversion effiency because they convert more energy from light to electricity.

FUN FACTS

Solar power takes a lot of work to harness. Most photovoltaic cells, the kind found on roofs, have only around 11-15 percent efficiency, though in labs they have gone as high as 40%. Solar panels and plants are both expensive, and both types of solar power systems take up a lot of space to provide a significant amount of energy. Most importantly, solar power systems need to be in a very sunny place without much cloud cover in order to harness the sun's rays.

Solar power is generally a clean energy source which gives off no pollution. Some types of photovoltaic cells contain a highly toxic chemical, but even now scientists are discovering a widely used non-toxic salt to replace the deadly chemical with. New upgrades to solar panels are making them more efficient. Their aesthetics are being improved - colored solar panels are less efficient, but more customizable - and, as technology improves, the very expensive solar cells we're used to are becoming more affordable.

REQUIREMENTS FOR USE

EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES

1. In two hours, enough solar energy hits the earth more than enough to meet current global energy consumption for an entire year. 2. More than 10,000 homes are powered entirely by solar energy3. Albert Einstein won a Nobel Prize for his solar energy experiments.
