The Life of Saint Francis of AssisiSaint Francis of Assisi was the son of a wealthy silk merchant and a French noblewoman, he was one of seven children. Saint Francis of Assisi lived a privileged early life. Known as a rebellious teenager, Saint Francis of Assisi was also known for his charm. At age 14, Saint Francis of Assisi left school.In 1201, when Saint Francis of Assisi was about 20 years of age, he began daydreaming of becoming a knight. Saint Francis of Assisi and other men of Assisi fought a battle against the Perugians. Saint Francis of Assisi was taken captive and held prisoner for almost one year. During the time he was held captive, Saint Francis of Assisi became very ill and he also began seeing visions. Saint Francis of Assisi was released in 1203 after being held captive for a ransom that was paid by his father. After his release from captivity, Saint Francis of Assisi was focused on God, prayer, helping lepers, a life of extreme poverty and preaching to people and animals. Followers of Saint Francis of Assisi became known as Franciscan Friars.

CanonizationSaint Francis of Assisi was canonized as a saint by Pope Gregory IX in 1226, two years after the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. The miracles of Saint Francis of Assisi include: healing a man with leprosy and mental illness, praying for robbers who changed their lives to become people of faith, stopping a wolf from continuing to terrorize a community, prayed that God would work through him to help people and animals and preached not only to people but also animals.
