Rates of Reactions

Reactions happen - no matter what! Chemical reactions happen over and over but they don't always happen at the same speed. What affects the overall speed of the reaction and the number of collisions that occur? TEMPERATURECONCENTRATION PRESSURECATALYSTS

FOUR FACTORS THAT AFFECT REACTION RATES

When you increase the pressure, the molecules have less space to move around. This will increase the overall rate of reaction.

When you put more of a substance in a solution, molecules will collide and speed up the rate of reaction.

When you increase the temperature, the molecules bounce around a lot more. They have more energy and they will collide (crash into each other)

Temperature

Pressure

Concentration

A chemical that speeds up the rate of reaction without being used up when the chemical changes.

Catalyst

What is the Collision Theory?A chemical reaction can only occur between particles when they collide (hit into each other)
