Weathering and Erosion
Is it breaking down or moving? Well, hey, let's find out!
Weathering is the breaking down of Earth'surface
Erosion is the movement of Earth's surface. Let's take a look at this mudslide video.
Weathering and erosion are two different, but related, processes.
Weathering is the breakdown of materials through physical or chemical actions.
Erosion occurs when weathered materials such as soil and rock fragments are carried away by wind, water or ice.
So, here it is: if a particle is loosened, chemically or mechanically, but stays put, call it weathering. Once the particle starts moving, call it erosion.
