Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCESMath Science Project
The new Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSS) call for students to be “college ready” by preparing students to demonstrate proficiency in using the tools of mathematics to solve real world problems. Earth Science, Living Environment, Chemistry and Physics teachers already use such problems within their existing courses that now need to be tied to the new math standards. This project is designed to enable Integrated Algebra, Geometry, and Algebra 2/Trigonometry teachers to explore common relationships and themes through collaboration with their science colleagues. The resulting lessons will benefit both disciplines, since mathematics promotes better understanding of science concepts and mathematics will be used in the context of problem-solving.
