The history of the Space Needle

The Space Needle is one of the most recognizable buildings in the United states. It is a tall, thin tower with a top that resembles a flying saucer. The Space Needle is 605 feet tall.

The physical characteristics of the Space Needle

The temperture in the summer is 66 degrees fahrenheit and in the winter it is 42 degrees fahrenheit. Most winds from the Pacific ocean brings lots of rain. The rain falls about 140 inches of rain.

The Space Needle is important because officials named the tower an official Seattle landmark.

Edward Carlson

In 1959, Edward Carlson, a chairman of the fair committe, proposed the idea of a restaurant atop a tall tower. Architect Jhon Graham, Jr., developed the final design for the tower's "flying saucer" on top. The design fit nicely with the fair's futuristic theme. Construction on the tower began in april 1961.
