Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara 5 September 1946 – 24 November 1991) was a British musician and songwriter. He's best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Queen.

Freddie Mercury was one of the first public figures to openly declare his homosexuality

Mary Austin was Freddie Mercury's girlfriend for six years; the relationship ended when he declared to her his homosexuality.He literaly described himself in an interview: "Gay as a daffodil".

He later said about the band's name, "I was certainly aware of the gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it".

Despite reservations from the other members and their initial management, Mercury chose the name "Queen" for the new band.

He was born in Zanzibar, wich was a British colony and in the present is in the actual Tanzania. He spent his boyhood in India with his grandmother and his aunt. After this years, he back to Zanzibar, buthe had to move once again because of Zanzibar Revolution. Mercury and his family practised the Zoroastrian religion.

He earned a Diploma in Art and Graphic Design at Ealing Art College. He designed Queen's logo.

Aged 12, he formed a school band, The Hectics, and covered rock and roll.

He began taking piano lessons at the age of seven.

His fiends remember him as a quiet and shy young man who showed a great deal of interest in music.

Freddie Mercury died of an STD, HIV (previously called GRID), which was passed on to him by his last partner, Jim Hutton

The image showed the four signs of the zodiac of the members of the band (two lions for Roger Taylor and John Deacon, the two leos the group, cancer sign crab by Brian May and nymphs that identified the sign Virgo Freddie Mercury) around a giant Q and, above all, the phoenix, who greeted the birth of the group from the ashes of other formations.

In April 1970, Mercury met guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor who had previously been in a band called Smile.
