Mechanical Energy Mechanical energy is the sum of potential energy and kinetic energy. It is the energy associated with the motion and position of an object. Ex. a moving car or throwing a ball.

Electrical EnergyMade up of negatively and positively charged electrons that commonly move through a wire. Ex. lightning or a lightblub

Kinetic Energy the kinetic energy of an object is the energy that it possesses due to its motion. Ex. Planets and atoms.

Thermal Energythe energy that comes from heat. This heat is generated by the movement of tiny particles within an object. Ex. Ice melting and a stove heating up

Chemical EnergyEnergy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds.Ex. batteries or photosynthesis

Nuclear EnergyNuclear energy is the energy in the nucleus, or core, of an atom. Ex. nuclear fission and nuclear fussion.

Electromagnet energyEnergy that travels in waves with electrical and magnetic properties. Ex. X-ray and microwaves.

Elastic Potential Energy Potential energy stored as a result of deformation of an elastic object. Ex. A rubber band and a spring.

Potential Energy the energy that an object has due to its position in a force field or that a system. Ex. Rollercoaster on the top of a hill and leaves about to fall.

Gravitational potential Energyenergy an object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field. Ex. A swing and a ball falling down the stairs.
