What is Iron?

What is Iron?Iron is an essencial mineral, it has many roles/jobs in the body.It is important to the body because it helps make red blood cells in the body which carry oxygen around the body.Not having enough iron can lead to iron deficiency anaemia.

What are some sources of Iron?Some sources of iron include;- liver- meat- beans- nuts - dried fruit - such as dried apricots- whole grains- such as brown rice- most dark-green vegetables- such as watercress and curly kaleEven though liver is good for the body, do not eat any liver if you are pregnant. This is bad because, iron is also a source of vitamin A, which may harm your unborn baby.

Why iron is important to the body?Iron is an important component of hemoglobin, the substance in red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to transport it throughout your body. If you don't have enough iron, your body can't make enough healthy oxygen-carrying red blood cells.
