-Dr. Seuss's real name is Theodor Seuss Geisel.-His birthday has been declared Read Across America Day by the National Education Association-The reason he has Dr. in front of his name is because his dad wanted him to become a doctor.

An American author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss wrote several childrens books that became some of the most well-known children picture story books. Originally starting his career as a cartoonist Dr. Seuss made cartoons for newspapers, and magazines such as Life and Vanity Fair. From his cartoons many requested him to be an illustrator, but it took many rejections from publishers before he was able to publish his first book. After his first book, Dr. Seuss went on to write and illustrate 44 childrens books. Dr. Seuss's book are known for having simple vocabulary, and being great beginners books for children. At the age of 87 Dr. Seuss died of cancer, but he remains a legacy in childrens literature.
