How it HappensBanana plants are adapted through genetic engineering in which recombinant DNA technology inserts dead virus into the banana. After consuming the fruit, people’s bodies can build up the resistance to the dead virus which then acts as a vaccine.

History2007 - Ugandan farmers first started genetically engineering bananas for agricultural purposes.2012 - Charles Arntzen engineered bananas with the cholera bacteria.

Advantages/Benefits*Consume a banana full of virus proteins*Immune system builds up antibodies*Less expensive*Stops the spread of disease*Significant in effort to eliminate Hepatitis B and Cholera *Doesn’t taste any different.*The bananas would be harvested and made into chips and powder and these would be given to people in developing countries who don't have good access to modern vaccines.

Disadvatages*Requires intensive quality control*Dosage concerns*Developers aren’t sure who will grow bananas out on the consumer market
