STANCE: OUR OVERALL STANCE WAS THAT ALTHOUGH LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL IS BENEFICIAL TO CHILDRENS FURTHER PROGRESSION IN AN INCREASINGLY DIVERSE SOCIETY, IT CAN CAUSE A GREAT DEAL OF INTERFERENCE WITH LEARNING IN GRAMMAR IN THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE AND INTERFERENCE IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CURRICULUM. ALSO, CHILDREN IN EARLY STAGES MIGHT LACK MATURITY AND CONFIDENCE. THE TEACHERS ROLE ASLO PLAYS A SIGNIFICANT PART IN TEACHING A SECOND LANGUAGE IN ORDER TO ACCOMODATION FOR EVERY CHILDS INDIVIDUALNEEDS. (SEE APENDIX 1)

Does learning a second language in the early stages improve the academic outcome of the students?

Summary:The aim of this research was to consider the effects of learning a second language on the reading proficiency and general school achievement of primary school children. Specifically it was aiming to conclude whether learning a second language in the early stages of education interfered with the learning of their first language. The researcher wanted to focus on primary age children in particular because evidence has suggested that this is the optimal time for introducing a new language.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS:(SEE APENDIX 2)

Rationale: We decided as a group to use glogster and animoto as none of the group had any prior experience using these tools. Therefore, we felt we would gain valuable knowledge and skills in hich we could take forward into our future professional career. We enjoyed and found it extremely useful using screencastomatic to include different forms of media such as voice recordings, videos and camera tools.
