My favorite part of the book is when Alexander tried to hold his breath to 300 in a bet. He lost the bet AND his money!
Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday
By: Judith Viorst
Alexander is unhappy. He got money from his grandparents, but unfortunately did not make very good spending choices. He spends his money on dopey things he doesn't need but thins he really wants. He winds up only having bus tokens and items he doesn't want.
Text to Text Connection
In the story, Alexander wanted money and he tried to pull his tooth and sell gum to get it because he wanted it so badly.
This reminds me of the story What About Me? where the boy wanted knowledge so badly he kept helping others and didn't stop trying to get it.
Alexander is EAGER. Alexander shows he is eager by constantly spending his money without really thinking about what he is spending it on.
Alexander is DETERMINED. Alexander show he is determined by always betting to try to earn more money from his brothers.
Token- a piece resembling a coin issued for use (as for fare on a bus)
I used a token to ride the bus home from school today.
Positively- absolutely, sure
I am positively sure I will save my money to buy the toy I really want.
Were you surprised when Alexander's dad fined him?
No! Saying bad words is definitely a BAD choice. He should have been grounded too.
Why do you think Alexander spent all of his money?
I think he spent all of his money because he is a young kids and doesn't know the importance of saving money or how to spend wisely!
