Daniel Bernoulli discovers equations to predict simple harmonic motion and furthers the understanding of fluid mechanics.

Albert Einstein introduces the theory of relativity. At this point in time scientists started to focus on molecular and quantum physics, and as a result atomic energy and radiation are finally understood.

Michael Faraday, Alessandro Volta, Georg Ohm, and many other scientists further our knowledge of electricity and magnetism and as a result inspire Thomas Edison to integrate electricity into buildings.

Sir Isaac Newton publishes PhilosophiƦ Naturalis Principia Mathematica, in which he describes the newly founded Calculus, which he has created in order to study physics. This is still the same physics we study today. Newton's calculus, laws of gravity and motion have remained mostly unchanged.

Before the 19th century, physics belonged to the much broader field of natural philosophy. Much of what we understand of physics today is based on ideas from ancient Greece, Egypt, China etc. For example, the Greek philosopher Archimedes discovered what we refer to as fluid dynamics. It was not until the late 1800's that physics was given its own branch of science.
