Messiah is made up of 53 movements. Shown at right are two. The top is from Part I and is called "For unto us a child is born." The bottom is from the end of Part II and is the most popular movement. Can you guess its name?

Handel's Messiah

Messiah was composed by George Frideric Handel in 1741 and premiered in Dublin in 1742. It is an oratorio, which means that it is a composition written for solo voices, choir, and orchestra that tells a sacred story. Messiah tells the story of the life of Christ in three parts—Jesus's birth, the Easter story, and Christ's triumphant return.
