Fetal Development

pregnancy: preg·nan·cy/pregnnsē/ The state of carrying a developing embryo or fetus within the female body. Fetus: fe·tus /fēts/ An unborn or unhatched offspring of a mammal, in particular an unborn human baby more than eight weeks after conception.

Pregnancy lasts lasts 9 months or 36 weeks.

The first moment the fetal development starts at conception. Fertilization and implantation.

On the first month the baby is an embryo surrounded of 2 layers of cells that help the baby grow. On the second month the baby is the size of a kidney bean and it has webbed fingers.

On the third month by now the baby is about an inch long and weighs about an ounce. On the fourth month the baby is about 5 inches long and weighs 5 ounces. The skeleton is hardening from rubbery cartilage to bone. On the fith month 10 inches long. Eyebrows and eyelids are in place. On the sixth month the baby is about a pound and a half. The baby's wrinkled skin is now getting smoother. The baby starts to put on baby fat. On the seventh month the baby weighs 3 pounds and it is about 15 inches long. It can now know light. On the eight month the baby weighs about 4 3/4 pounds. Layers of fat are making the baby roundier, and its lungs are well developed.

On the ninth month on average the baby is about 19 inches long and weighs 7 pounds
