Romanticism -not about love or romance -imagination over reason, intuition over fact -nature *The Pit and the Pendulum by Edgar Allen Poe *Nature by Ralph Waldo Emerson

Intro of my essay "In My Bondage and My Freedom, Fredrick Douglass told his life story and gave readers a firsthand view of slavery. This showed how inhumane and truly terrible slavery in our country was. African-Americans held in chains and slave owners alike felt the differences. It had the ability to make everyone miserable. Slavery can change individuals opinions and make them re-think everything."
Puritan Style Writing -no fiction -very faith and religion based - hymns and sermons *Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathon Edwards
