The Glogster ethos is based around learners engaging with knowledge at their own pace and in their own ways, regardless of age, ability or any other circumstance. The multimedia format of a glog means there really is something for every learning style, and the intuitive functionality of the iPad application allows many users who might otherwise be held back by physical or learning-related disabilities to take control of their own learning.
"I use the tool for teaching reading to disabled students," says Zdenkica Stanec, a special needs educator from Croatia, "I believe it is an indispensable right, and I think Glogster is great for making those lessons individual."
With this in mind, we strive to conform to - and exceed - the Double-A level of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. These guidelines provide a strong foundation for our ongoing developments, ensuring that our web service is not only accessible but truly enjoyable for all users, regardless of disability.
Our recent iPad application aims to take universality a step further, integrating with valuable iOS functions such as Voiceover and Dictation for the visually impaired, AssistiveTouch for users with physical or motor challenges, and Guided Access for those with attention challenges.
Of course, while we are constantly striving for universality, we appreciate that this is an ongoing process of discussion and reevaluation. We also understand that universal accessibility must take into account many individual differences, and that the only way we can begin to achieve true universality is through close contact with differently-abled users, who continue to offer valuable insight into the development of the Glogster experience.
